Shanti Dwip

The meaning of the name Shantidwip is “the island of peace” and dham means “abode where the Lord can be praise”. And it suits perfect cause Shantidwip dham is located in a strategic place where no civilization has come yet. Is completely separated from the touristic zone,  away from any noise of a modern civilization, with pure air and nature sounds and it´s perfect to rediscover our true essence as human beings, find a reconnection with mother nature, a healthier one;  and is the best place to find harmony with that beautiful voice inside that constantly wants us to do the right things.

Shantidwip Dham is on the Lake Titicaca and it sits 3,811 m (12,500 ft) above sea level. Making it a real adventure for real seekers of true experiences.

The volunteer program works only when is programmated by the same people that live here. (Write to our e-mail in order to confirm the possible dates for you to come)

In this part we´re gonna to explain the best 2 ways to get to Shantidwip Dham.

First way: from La Paz

You get to the city of La Paz, take a taxi to the cementery and tell the driver to drop you where the buses to copacabana are. They all know where it is, just across the street from the cementery. This taxi may cost you 10 bolivianos or 12 if you are in the bus station or in the city center. (If you wish to take the same bus but in a real bus station, with a little more cost, you can do it in the bus station of the city center)

Buy a ticket to copacabana. It cost 10 bolivianos and if you have to much things in addition to your big backpack, they might wanna charge you 5 bolivianos extra per each additional bag. But hey! don´t forget you are in bolivian territory now, so you can fight a little bit to lay down this extra price. This buses go out every half hour since 4.30am and it takes 2 hour and a half to get to Copacabana.

But wait! You are not going to Copacabana, you are going to talk to the bus driver and tell him that you have to go down in “San Pedro de Tiquina”. This is your stop. This city is 1 hour before Copacabana and you are going to recognize it easily. The bus goes until a point where the road is cut in half by the Titicaca Lake. Here, the bus driver is gonna tell you to get off the bus because you have to take a motorboat to cross the lake. But everything is OK, your things cross with the bus and you and the others with the little motorboat that is gonna cost you1.5 bolivianos… Strangely, this price is not included in the price of the bus ticket.
After crossing the lake, you have to wait for the bus in the near central plaza. And here it is! This is San Pedro de Tiquina and here you have to get down your things from the bus and wait for us.

Here you can call us to pick you up, but is better if you call us before taking the bus to Copacabana in La Paz. This way we wait for you in the Plaza of Tiquina.

Second way: from Copacabana

it was a great experience, right? but still… there is something left, take a minibus to San Pedreo de Tiquina. It cost you 10 bolivianos, and sometimes a little more.
Call us before you take the bus so we can wait for you when you get to the central plaza of San Pedro de Tiquina.
